This research investigates vegetations of37plots in Ordos in September2011; these plots belong to3kinds of vegetation types:temperate steppe, temperate desert steppe and temperate steppe-desert. And the research do comparative study between effects of3different using types (AYG, CSG and BG) on community characteristics of grassland vegetation and degradation of vegetation and carbon storage. The research calculates the carbon storage by a different calculation method, aims to provide experimental evidence for establishment of evaluation system for carbon storage in steppe and desert areas. The main findings are as follows:1. Community coverage and height of temperate steppe and temperate desert steppe have significant differences(p<0.05) between3using types, the sort is:BG>CSG>AYG. Community coverage and height of temperate steppe-desert have not significant difference (p>0.05). Biomass of3kinds of vegetations have significant differences (p<0.05), the sort is:BG>CSG>AYG.2. The result of study on biodiversity show, number of species have significant differences (p<0.05) the sort is:BG>CSG>AYG. Grazing reduce the proportion of perennial plants and increase the proportion of annual plant s in the community, banning grazing by contrast.3. Vegetation degradation level of temperate steppe and temperate desert steppe have significant differences (p<0.05) between3using types, the sort is:BG (4.0)>CSG (3.0)>AYG (2.0). Vegetation degradation level of temperate steppe-desert have not significant difference (p>0.05)4. At present, there is not an unified count system to evaluate and calculate carbon storage in steppe and desert areas; Many calculation does not consider stocking rate differences and differences in vegetation type. Therefore, this research uses the different conversion coefficient in calculation of carbon storage. Conversion coefficients are follows:BG90%, CSG50%. AYG10%; temperate steppe1.0, temperate desert steppe2.0, temperate steppe-desert3.0; ground biomass5.0.5. Vegetation carbon storages of3kinds of vegetation have significant differences (p<0.05) between3using types, the sort is:BG>CSG>AYG. Soil carbon storages have not significant difference (p>0.05), grazing plots higher than banning, as grazing increase soil bulk density. Total carbon storage is sum of vegetation carbon storage and soil carbon storage. Total carbon storage have significant differences (p<0.05), sort of temperate steppe and temperate steppe-desert is:CSG> AYG> BG; sort of temperate desert steppe is:AYG> CSG> BG.6. The results of study show that, proportion of soil carbon storage (>98%) is significantly higher than proportion of vegetation carbon storage (<2%) in total carbon storage in3kinds of vegetations in Ordos.Grassland soil carbon stocks in soil carbon storage mechanism and how the annual conversion factor is an important issue for future research.
