Prostaglandins play important roles in animal reproduction, bone metabolism and many other physiological processes. For example, The effects of prostaglandins on the dissolution of the corpus luteum, follicle maturation and ovulation, the ovular running in the fallopian tubes and uterus, and final oviposition in the reproductive system of female animals; To bone metabolism of birds, prostaglandins have a complex effects on the bone metabolism, that is, play a dual regulatory role of the bone resorption and bone formation. In this experiment, the effect of exogenous prostaglandin compound solvent PGCL-515on the performance and bone metabolism of cage hens was observed for providing evidences of enhancement of performance and treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in the later period of laying.Experiment I Effect of PGCL-515on the performance in the later period of laying cage hensObjective:To observe the effect of PGCL-515on the performance of ISA hens in the later period of laying. Methods:300ISA hens were divided into A, B, C and D groups randomly. Group A, group B and group C were administered at doses of20μg,10μg and5μg per hen, respectively, and group D was the control group. Drugs mixed with water were given by drinking. During the experiment, eggs were collected for counting total number of eggs and broken eggs and weighing eggs in each group at3o’clock p.m, and then the egg laying rate, broken egg rate, average egg weight, and feed conversion ratio were calculated every day. Eggshell strength and eggshell thickness were measured from egg samples collected above every five weeks. After16weeks,10hens were weighed and sacrificed, then the ovarian and fallopian tubeswere weighed and the ovarian index and the fallopian tube index were caculated in each group. Results:Compared with control group (group D), egg laying rate was significantly increased9.84%(P<0.05) and3.44%(P<0.05) in A and B groups, but decreased4.70%(P<0.05) in C group. Broken egg rate in A group was lower than B and C group, decreased77.6%compared with D group. Everage egg weight in A group was significantly higher than B, C, and D groups (P<0.05). Compared with D group, the feed conversion ratio was significantly decreased3.21%(P<0.05) in A group, was not significant in B and C groups. The maximum load and broken load of the eggshell in5,10and15weeks in A group, were14.45%,13.89%,17.08%and27.27%,31.65%,43.58%(P <0.05), respectively higher than D group (P<0.05), but B and C groups were not higher than D group. The ovarian indexes in A and B groups also were higher than D group (P<0.05) and the fallopian tube indexes in A, B, and C groups were higher than D group. Conclusion:Doses of20μg PGCL-515can significantly improve the performance of cage laying hens, lower feed conversion rates, enhance eggshell quality.Experiment Ⅱ Effects of PGCL-515on Bone Metabolism in old cage layersObjective:To investigate the effects of PGCL-515on bone metabolism in the later period of laying cage hens. Methods:30055weeks old ISA hens were divided into A, B, C and D groups randomly and75hens for each group. Groups A, B and C for PGCL-515were given at dosage of20μg,10μg and5μg per hen, respectively, and group D was the control group. The drugs mixed with water were given by drinking. After16weeks,10hens were weighed and sacrificed in each group. The humerus, tibea and femur for each side were collected and bone weight, bone radiographic density, bone biomechanical, cortical bone histomorphometry were measured and calculated. Results:Compared with control, the bone indexes of group A and C increased (P<0.05). In bone radiographic density, group A and C increased significantly (P<0.05), and group A stiffness increased (P<0.05), Group C Young’s modulus was significantly increased (P<0.05), bone quality improvement better than group D. Compared with group D, group A, B, C, cortical bone morphology measurement results are better. Conclusion:PGCL-515can promote bone formation, bone quality improvement, prevention of osteoporosis.
