Toxoplasmosis is a parasitical zoonosis caused by Toxoplasma gondii, since Toxoplasma gondii has an extremely wide range of intermediate hosts, the parasite can infect mammal, including human, birds and cold-blooded animals, etc. Its worldwide distribution damages the health of human and livestock, not to mention the great economic losses it causes. Consumption of raw or partially cooked meat and eggs infected by Toxoplasma gondii is a major route of infection for human. Therefore, the detection of toxoplasmosis in livestock is an important public health significance. In order to know the infection of Toxoplasma gondii in chickens, pigs, and freshwater organisms in parts of China, three surveys were made as follow.During one year from April2011to April2012, totally452serum samples of free-range chickens from Funing were detected for antigen and antibody by ELISA, and the results showed that the seropositive rate of free-range chicken in spring of2011is40.19%(43/107); the seropositive rate of free-range chicken in summer of2011is6.17%(10/162); the seropositive rate of free-range chicken in autumn of2011is1.11%(1/90); the seropositive rate of free-range chicken in winter of2011is30.53%(29/93). It’s obviously that the seropositive rate of Toxoplasma gondii in spring or winter is higher than what in summer or autumn.Prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in374farm pigs whose infections of PRSS (Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome), CSF (Classical swine fever virus) or PC (Porcine circovirus) were definite, from10regions of China, were detected for antigen and antibody by ELISA. The results are present as follows:10.00%out of Beijing samples are seropositive, while the coinfection rate of Toxoplasma gondii with PRSS is10.00%, which is0of Toxoplasma gondii with CSF or PC;Hubei province, the seropositive rate is1.00%, while coinfection rates are all0; Jiangsu province, the seropositive rate is2.50%, the same as coinfection rate of Toxoplasma gondii with PRSS/CSF/PC; Shanghai, seropositive rate is25.00%, while coinfection rates are0; Shandong province, the positive rate of Toxoplasma gondii is11.36%, the same as coinfection rate of Toxoplasma gondii with PRSS/CSF/PC; Chongqing, the positive rate is18.18%, as the same with coinfection rates of Toxoplasma gondii with PRSS/CSF, while the coinfection rate of Toxoplasma gondii with PC is0; Sichuan province, the positive rate of Toxoplasma gondii is24.59%, coinfection rate of Toxoplasma gondii with PRSS/CSF/PC is18.03%/9.84%/1.64%; the samples from Hubei province and Tianjin are all negative.During June2011and April2012, totally426silver carp samples of Jiangsu, Shandong, Hubei and Chongqing were detected for Toxoplasma gondii by PCR, and the positive rate is0.23%; all the309carp samples, collected from Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei and Ningxia, are negative; the positive rate of813nipponense samples of Zhejiang, Shandong, Hubei and Jingxi is0.12%.
