Research On Key Techniques Of Muskmelon Cultivated In Plastic Greenhouse In Nantong

With the development of consumption, Muskmelon is regarded as a high-grade vegetable and well accepted by consumers. By the1970s muskmelon were mainly cultivated in the cold and arid region in northwest China. And with the rise of facilities agriculture, the cultivation in southeast and coastal area was gradually realized. But there still exist problems, specifically the blindness in variety selection and imperfect supporting in techniques. Nantong is Located in the coastal, when muskmelons grow, it is rainy and humid, which brings difficult to us. So in this research, based on the market demand of muskmelon in Nantong and eastern China, we selected or introduced some available cultivars, studying some key techniques of cultivation in Nantong in plastic greenhouse. The main results were as follows:1. Cultivars and characteristics of available muskmelon in Nantong cultivated in plastic greenhouseIn this research, we used11cultivars including5smooth skin and6netted melon for comparative test. Smooth skin cultivars, Haimi No.6and Poinsettia, presented good quality. Haimi No.6showed the characterizations of high yield and quality, with fruit weight of1.53kg, the center sugar content of the fruit around13.9%, and average yield approximately2119kg per667m2. Poinsettia had compact plant type, big fruit size, with fruit weight about1.56kg, the center sugar content of the fruit about13.7%, and average yield around2175kg per667m2.Disease resistance3800and Haimi No.5, netted melon, were graded of good quality too. Disease resistance3800presented a fine appearance, with fruit weight of2.10kg, the center sugar content of the fruit around14.6%, and average yield about2918kg per667m2. Haimi No.5showed higher yield, better quality, fruit weight about1.86kg, the center sugar content of the fruit approximately13.8%, and average yield about2501kg per667m2. The four cultivars presented high yield, good quality and market ability. It is recommended to increase efforts to promote as main cultivars.2.Substrate and additives suitable for muskmelon plug seedlingEasily obtained, inexpensive straw were used as the main raw materials, after grinding,30%-40%of the chicken manure and1%straw-decomposing were added into it, then composting fermentation was carried out to transfer the mixture into organic matrix. The research illustrate that the seedlings cultivated in organic matrix with mixed peat and vermiculite as compound substrate(organic compost:peat:vermiculite=2:2:1), adding slow-release fertilizer dose,20mg/L of the hair root agent and5mg/L of the control agent showed a higher quality and yield potential.3-Appropriate fertilization, planting density, fruit setting node and runner numbers for muskmelon cultivated in plastic greenhouseAccording to soil fertility, put enough fertilizer to the seedlings. Usually, we used It commercial organic fertilizer every667m2,45%of the fertilizer50kg, about2100seedlings every667m2, fruit setting node13to15for the best and kept the top left two main vines best.4. Fruit numbers per plant of muskmelon cultivated in plastic greenhouseZhongtiancuiyu, zhongtian No.1, small fruit-shaped Varieties, Poinsettia No.2middle fruit-shaped presented better fruit yield and efficiency when kept two fruits. While the big shape varieties, New Century, Haimi No.2and5, showed better fruit yield when kept only one fruit.5.Efficient techniques procedures of Nantong muskmelon cultivated in plastic greenhouseAn efficient techniques procedure was established from eight aspects:the cultivated facilities, suitable varieties, breeding techniques, planting, plant management, environmental control, pest control, harvesting and packaging.
