The objective of the present study is to find out the effects of rice-vegetable rotation on theoccurrence of common non-soilborne vegetable diseases and insect pests, and to provide controlstrategy, especially integrated pest management (IPM) strategy for pest control in vegetable production. The occurrence of diseases and insect pests in fields with different years of rice-vegetable rotation andgrown different vegetable crops was compared to common cultivation field by variance analysis thedata of different years and different investigating times through field experiment. The results are usefulto the agricultural production in Rong county.Compared to the vegetable production fields without rotation, rice-vegetable rotation couldsignificantly reduced or delayed the occurrence such as tomato late blight, virus disease, aphids andcucumber downy mildew, powdery mildew hazards in Rong county. The effect increased in the late time. However, rotation could not decrease the occurrence of cutworms on cucumber. The effect decreasedwith year went on. Except for cutworms, the damage of the tomato late blight, virus disease, aphids andcucumber downy mildew, powdery mildew cutworm increased on rice-vegetable rotation fields.Rice-vegetable rotation could significantly reduced or delayed non-soilborne vegetable diseases andinsect pests maybe are two possible reasons.First, waterlogging can disinfect the residual plants withdiseases and the pathogen reduced.Second, the change in the type of soil weed lead to hostreduce.Tomato late blight and cucumber downy mildew was more serious after3years of continuousrice-vegetable rotation. The way to solve the problem is to prolong the waterlogging time, stop plantingor replace the soil.
