Through the analysis of veterinary medical records of a racecourse in Wuhan from2009to2012, the common equine diseases and pathogenesis are summarized, which would provide a reference for future disease prevention. As there were much horse with insect bite hypersensitivity cases in this racecourse we investigated the cause from these aspects:clinical symptoms; examination of fungi, bacteria and scabies mites; skin histopathology; blood routine examination. The results were as follows:the clinical symptoms of horse with insect bite hypersensitivity was typical; no fungi, bacteria or scabies mites were discovered in scurf; skin histopathology slices showed edema and infiltration of Eosinophils in pulmonary interstitial superficial layer, and there were abundant Eosinophils around lymphoid tissue cells; the blood routine examination showed anemia but no systemic inflammatory response. We also investigated the relationship between the pathogenesis of horse with insect bite hypersensitivity and ages, gender, breeds and color. As the main cause of the horse with insect bite hypersensitivity were mosquito and midge bites, our research aimed at the control of the mosquitoes and midges. We chose12horses with significant clinical symptoms as samples,4horses without clinical symptoms as controls. The samples were treated with hanging18mesh×20mesh mosquito net, daubing compound dexamethasone acetate sodium phosphate cream, spraying homemade mosquitoes repellents and ejaculation of chlorpheniramine injection respectively. The results shows that hanging18mesh x20mesh mosquito net combined with applying compound dexamethasone acetate sodium phosphate cream can control horse with insect bite hypersensitivity effectively. Homemade mosquitoes repellents have adjuvant treatment on horse with insect bite hypersensitivity. Our research showed that environmental control combined with drug therapy had significant treatment effect on hypersensitivity, which is potential for broad application.
