Magnolia officinalis is deciduous arbors of Magnolia linn.family. As a common medicinefor digestive tract diseases, it is widely used in clinical application, such as upper respiratorytract infection, whooping cough, conjunctivitis, oral cavity inflammation, odontalgia, foodstasis, stomachache, ulcerative carbunele, rheumatism and so on. Because the naturalgermplasm resources of Magnolia are drying up, people began to planting Magnoliaplantation to meet the market demand, Ankang city is an important producer of medicinalmaterials in Shaanxi Province in Magnolia Bark, mainly exist random harvest, a source ofconfusion, no fine varieties, planting technology of non-standard problems.In order to provide the technical support for effective planting, we selected the Magnoliaplantation (2,4,5,6,7,8years old) as the research object, and measured the magnololcontent in phloem, leaf and flower. Besides that, we also researched the stand characters of itin three different density. Through the five-dominant-trees method, we selected the eminenttrees in the65ha plantation of Ziyang and Lan’gao county, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province,measured the magnolol contents in root bark, bark, branch bark, leaf and flower through theHPLC in different season. The DBH, height, clear height and canopy of trees in three differentplant density were compared. Research results provide the theoretical support for the effectiveand standardization planting. It is helpful to improve the income of farmers and quality ofdrugs. The main results as followed:(1) There were great difference between magnolol and honokiol content in the velamen,bark and twig bark of6years old plantation. The magnolol content of root bark, bark, branchbark were81.8mg/g,23.4mg/g and6.9mg/g, respectively and the honokiol content were39.2mg/g,3.0mg/g and2.0mg/g. The content of Magnolia phenol were121.0mg/g,26.4mg/gand8.9mg/g, respectively.(2) The magnolol content was greatly lower than the honokiol content in leaves from theearly to old age, the average magnolol content was1.4mg/g and the average honokiol contentwas5.1mg/g. There was no significant difference between the magnolol content and honokiol content in different parts of the same leaf. The magnolol content was0.5mg/g and thehonokiol content was between0.9to1.0mg/g, the content of Magnolia phenol was between1.4to1.5mg/g.(3) Confirm the standard to select the eminent tree of Magnolia plantation. In theplantation (2,4,5,6,7,8years old), we can select the eminent tree through the height, DBHand timber volume in the primary election. And then we can select it in the second election, ifthe height, DBH and timber volume of the candidate tree are higher than the average value ofthe five-dominant-trees1%,8%and20%, respectively.(4) Three were36candidate trees in Ziyang and Lan’gao counties, compare to thestandard of the Magnolia plantation, we selected15candidate trees, and the first selection ratewas41.7%. Compared to the standard of magnolol content in the2010National Formulary,we selected2eminent trees, the second selection rate was13.3%. The final selection rate was5.6%.(5) The DBH of4years old plantation was not affected by the pant density (1600,2500and4444plants per ha), the average DBH was between2.9to3.0cm. The DBH of6yearsand8years old plantation decreased with the plant density increasing, the minimum valuewas3.6cm and4.6cm and the maximum value were4.0cm and5.8cm, respectively.(6) The height of4,6and8years old plantation were slightly affected by the plantdensity, but the average value increased greatly with the age. The minimum value was3.5mand the maximum value was6.5m.(7) The value of clear height greatly increased with the age of trees in the density of1600plants per ha. The minimum value was1.7m and the maximum was3.9m. The value wasbetween1.9to2.7m in the density of2500and4444plants per ha.(8) The canopy of4and6years old plantation were nearly no affected by the plantdensity, the average value was between0.5to1.7m~2. The canopy of8years old treesdecreased with the plant density increased, the minimum value was1.1m~2and the maximumvalue3.7m~2.(9) According to the characteristics table of different trees in different age and density,we confirmed the best planting age and density were6years old and1600plants per ha.
