Being an expensive Chinese herbal medicine in our country as well as excellentornamental and ecological species, the plant of Lonicera japonica Thunb. has greateconomical and ecological value. In this objective, the chlorophyll, carotenoids, flavonoid offlower pigments and chlorogenic acid, luteoloside of main medicial effective ingredient ofLonicera japonica Thunb. during different flowering stages were qualitative and quantitativeanalysized using of thin layer chromatography techniques, UV-visible spectrotrophotometryand high performance liguid chromatography. Successfully explain the reason of flowercolour change with flower development from flower pigments’perspective, what’s more, discuss the relevence between flower colour and herbal quality of Lonicera japonica Thunb.to provide theoretical support for the cultivation of new varieties of Lonicera japonica Thunb.and judging herbal quality based on its colour. The result as followed:(1) The content’s change of flower pigments and herbal effective ingredient of Lonicerajaponica Thunb.Determing the contents’changes of chlorophyll, carotenoids, flavonoid, chlorogenic acid, and luteoloside of Lonicera japonica Thunb. during six flowering stages(primary bud, greenbud, primary white, white bud, white flower, yellow flower),the result as followed: the contentchanging trends of chlorophyll, chlorogenic acid and flavonoids’content in flower of Lonicerajaponica Thunb. were: primary bud>Green bud>primary white>white bud>white flower>yellow flower; the content changing trend of cartenoids in the initial stageswas: primary bud>Green bud>primary white>white bud>white flower, but itscontent increased sharply in the yellow flower, reached maximum in the entire floweringstages; the content changing trends of luteoloside was: Green bud>primary bud>primary white>white bud>white flower>yellow flower;(2) The relationship between flower colour and pigments of Lonicera japonica Thunb. The content of chlorophyll is higher during flowering stages of primary bud and greenbud, and the higher relative content of carotenoids, which led in the flower colour of thesetwo flowering stages present green; The content of chlorophyll, cartenoids, flavonoid of Lonicera japonica Thunb. decreased gradually during the flowering satges of primary white, white bud and white flower, which leds to its flower colour changed from the initial green tolight green or white; Finally, the content of cartenoids sharply increase of nearly ten timesduring the flowering stage from white flower to yellow flower, which leaded its colourchange from white to yellow.(3) The relationship between flower colour and the pH of petal cells durring Lonicerajaponica Thunb. There was no direct connection between flower colour and the pH of petal cells duringLonicera japonica Thunb.;(4) The relationship between flower colour of Lonicera japonica Thunb. and its herbalguality; The herbal guality of Lonicera japonica Thunb. was graduated reduced with its flowerdevelopment, immediately, the green and light green herb of Lonicera japonica Thunb. hasbetter herbal quality than the white and yellow;...
