The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of sika deer tail on body growth, immunehealth and anti-fatigue. feeding experiment, digestion and metabolism experiment, physiological andbiochemical indexes analysis, spontaneous activity test, rolling stick test, step down test, dark avoidancetest, Water maze test, swelling of ear test and analysis of blood cell index were performed on rats andmice after intragastric administration of female and male sika deer tail’s powder. The test methods andresults were as follows:Expeirment1: Effect of sika deer tail on nitrogenous metabolism of female and male rats.363-weeks-old healthy wistar rats (half male and half female) were randomly divided into6groups (Male:control group M, group M1and group M2; female: control group F, group F1and group F2), n=6. Therats of group M1and group F1were intragastric30mg of male Sika Deer tail’s powder daily. The rats oftrail group M2and trail group F2were intragastric30mg of female Sika Deer tail’s powder daily.Digestion and metabolism experiment were carried outon the6thweek of intragastric administration. Theresults showed:(1) intragastric30mg Sika Deer tail’s powder daily had no influence on rats’feed intake, weight gain and(F/G)(P>0.05);(2) there was no significantly difference between different sika deer tailpower on feed intake, weight gain and (F/G) of rats(P>0.05).(3)30mg of sika deer tail power didn’taffect Digestibilities of Dry matter and protein, Nitrogen deposition, Net protein utilization, Proteinbiological value of male and female rats statistically(P>0.05).(4) Neither male nor female sika deer tailpower affected the Digestibilitis of Dry matter and protein, Nitrogen deposition, Net protein utilization,Protein biological value of rats statistically(P>0.05).(5) Maturity of male rat significantly longer thanthat that of female(P>0.05).Experiment2: Effects of sika deer tail on immune system and hormone in blood. Using the samematerial and experiment design with experiment1, blood of each rat were collected from abdominalaorta followed by centrifugation at3800for10min after6weeks’ feeding. Serum was isolated and usedfor immunofactors and hormone checking. Animals were killed flowing blood collection, livers, kidneys, spleens, testis and ovaries were weighted for organ indexes. Results showed:(1) Treatment of sika deertail power resulted in significantly increased level of IL-2and IgG and testosterone, enhanced Kidneyand Testicle index, but no significant affects on level of IgA, IgM, P4and Liver index、Spleen index ofmale rats were observed(P<0.05).(2) For female rat, IL-2and IgG in serum significantly increased aftertreatment with sika deer tail, but IgA IgM, P4level and Kidney index、Liver index、Spleen index、Oarium index showed no significant difference(P>0.05).(3)There were no significant differencebetween the effects of male and female sika deer tail power on IL-2, IgG, IgA, IgM, testosterone, P4content and Kidney index, Liver index, Spleen index, Testicle index(P>0.05).(4) IL-2and IgG in serumisolated from male rats were significantly higher than that from females, but IgA and IgM were lowerthan that from female ones(P>0.05).Experiment3: Effects of sika deer tail on active function and Immune inflammation on mice. Eighteen male mice of3weeks age were randomly separated into3groups, sika deer tail powder frommale and female sika deer were intragastrically administrated for6weeks. Spontaneous activity test, rolling stick test, step down test, dark avoidance test, water maze test were carried out from the4thto5thweek. Assay of blood cell index and the rate of swelling of ear were performed at6th week followed byeyeball blood collection. The results showed:(1) the time of rolling stick test and spontaneous activitytimes were improved, activity and anti-fatigue function also were enhanced after sika deer tail poweradministration.(2) There was no significant different effect on activity and anti-fatigue function in micebetween sika deer tail power isolated from male andfemale on effect.(3)Sika deer tail powersignificantly decreased electric shock time and increased the memory of mice.(4) The swelling of miceauricle of ears from xylene were obviously smaller in experiment groups compared with control group, showing that sika deer tail power functions in anti-inflammation.(5) Both neutrophilic granulocyte andlymphocytes in experiment group were higher than that in control group.(6) There were no significantdifferent effects on mice neutrophilic granulocyte and lymphocytes between sika deer tail powder frommale and female. The spontaneous activity test, the rolling stick test, the step down test, dark avoidancetest, Water maze test, the swelling of ear test and the analysis of blood cell index.
