The gearbox of rotary tiller is the connecting part between the tractor power source and the rotary tiller working device. The gearbox itself is a load-bearing parts of the transmission system, and it works in a rather severe environment. The gears and bearings in the gearbox are subjected to large impact, if the strength and stiffness of the gearbox is insufficient, the normal operation of internal gear transmission system will be affected due to the deformation. The gearbox is easily occurred in internal and external excitation resonance, meanwhile this will result in damage to the internal components, and the working noise will become larger. In conclusion, it is of great significance to carry out analysis and optimal design based on FEM on the gearbox.Assisted by finite element method to analyze the performance of the mechanical structure has become an important means of modern mechanical design, while taking advantage of modern optimization techniques for optimization of weight and deformation is becoming increasingly common.This thesis took the gearbox of a rotary tiller as the research object, using the method of FEA to analyze the static and dynamic characteristics of this gearbox. A structure optimization for the gearbox was also carried out, in order to achieve the purpose of improving product performance.The geometric model of gearbox of the rotary tiller was built by Pro/Engineer, and it was conducted to HyperMesh to be modified and meshed, then constrains and loads were applied to the model. Static analysis was done in ANSYS and the modal was calculated either, the top10frequencies and formations of natural and constraint modes were got. Based on the finite element analysis above, the optimization variables of the gearbox were determined, then optimal design of the gearbox based on ANSYS were carried out. The quality of the gearbox reduced7.6%after optimization, and this optimal design achieved a good result.
