This study is constituted of three experiments.Experiment1: The effect of the growth performance of calves in lactobacillus. The study was used of single-factor randomized experimental design. In this study32healthy Holstein bull calves were randomly divided into4groups and each group has8calves.At the beginning of five months old, each group was fed lactobacillus. The first10days wereserved as the adaptation period, and formal feeding period was60d. The results show:1) Feddifferent levels of lactobacillus has the smaller effect on calves’ circumference and height, andthe differences were not significant (p>0.05). However, the maximum of the circumferenceappeared in group T3, but the differences were not significant (p>0.05).2)Each group in weightand average daily gain has no significant differences (p>0.05). The results showed, with theincreasing amount of lactobacillus, calves’ body size index, weight and average daily gain alsoincrease. And in group T4, each calves’ body size index has the best result.Experiment2: The influence on digestion and metabolism of calves in lactobacillus. The experimental design is same as test1. The result was shown that lactobacillus affectedcalves dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fat, Ca and P apparent digestibility, but thedifferences were not significant (p>0.05). Even so, every indicators in group T4were higher thanother groups. Feeding lactobacillus is conducive to digestion and absorption of feed and savefeed consumption.Experiment3: To study the influence on calves blood indexes in lactobacillus. The last day of the trial, prepare blood serum and measure serum biochemical, immunological, hormonal and antioxidant capacity indicators. The results show that:1)Effects oflactobacillus in serum total protein, urea nitrogen and blood sugar were not significan(tP>0.05).The content of triglyceride in blood serum reduced as the increased levels of lactobacillus, Thedifferences between group T3and group T1were not significant, but group T4and group T1 have extremely significant differences(p<0.01). Lactobacillus has the smaller impact on thecontent of total cholesterol.2)The effects on calves’ growth hormone, there is no significantdifferences between group T1and group T2, but there is significant differences between groupT3, group T4and group T1(p<0.05). Compared with group T1, the Cortisol content of threeexperimental groups were no significant differences. But the concentration of insulin-like growthfactor-1, there is significant differences (p<0.01). Although with the addition of lactobacillus, three experimental groups were no significant differences.3) The content of alkalinephosphatase in serum increased with the increasing of the content of lactobacillus, group T3,group T4compared with group T1have significant differences(p<0.01);Lysozyme increasedwith the increasing of lactobacillus, experimental groups compared with group T1havesignificant differences (p<0.01), but there is no significant differences between experimentalgroups (P>0.05).4) The lactobacillus has a significant effect on the total antioxidantcapacity(p<0.01), but there is no significant differences between experimental groups. There is asignificant difference in nitric oxide content between group T2and group T1. Group T3, groupT4compared with group T1have significant differences(P<0.01).The results was proved that Lactobacillus can alter calves immune function, improve thedigestibility of nutrients and thus improve growth performance of calves.
