The Amur tiger had historically been widely distributed in the northeast of China, even in parts of the North China. However, due to historical disturbance reasons of the war, the immigration, etc., and the man-made reasons of deforestation, over-hunting, road construction, etc., the habitat of the Amur tiger has been severely damaged that its habitat area was shrinking. At present, the Amur tiger have been endangered in China, which may disappear from the Earth at any time, so that to protect the Amur tiger is already urgent. The habitat is a place to survive and thrive for the Amur tiger so that to research on it is the basis of other study. This paper taking the RS and GIS technology as the core technologies, combined with remote sensing images and basic geographic information, completed the suitability evaluation of the Amur tiger habitat. Eight factors were selected which have a major impact on the Amur tiger’s survival, including the vegetation type, the vegetation coverage, the altitude, the slope, the aspect, the water, the settlements and the road. The study area contained three isolated distribution area:the east of Wanda mountain, the north and south of Lao Yeling mountain. Then, through the weight and ranking of each factor obtained by using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and analytic hierarchy process(AHP) method, this paper established the evaluation model, accomplished the comprehensive evaluation of the existing Amur tiger habitat.Furthermore, from three aspects (vegetation, geographical environment and human interference), this paper achieved evaluation and analysis for the Amur tiger potential habitat by experts models method in the whole Heilongjiang province scope, and generated potential habitat suitability maps in Heilongjiang province. The residual distribution of potential habitat of the Amur tiger was studied in Heilongjiang province. The purpose is to provide a reference for Amur tiger conservation and reintroduction work and other research work.
