Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the crystallization of wisdom of Chinesepeople’s long-term struggle with the disease. The science of prescriptions is a crucialcomponent of traditional Chinese medicine. But, with the progress of the society and themightiness of the western medicine, the traditional Chinese prescriptions have receivedthe unprecedented severe challenge and even been questioned. So that, promote thedevelopment of the modernization of Chinese medicine and enable it to provide betterservice for the modern human health has become a problem which should be solvedurgently. The theoretical system of TCM has a long history, most of them had formed inancient times. So, the vast majority of the theory of syndrome differentiation and herbalclassic methods are existed in TCM ancient books, such as Treatise on Cold PathogenicDiseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber. However, most of the ancient books are noteasy to read, although the system of the book is clear but the amount of information is toolarge to be grasped. Therefore, using data mining methods to get the informationvisualization of the huge data in TCM ancient books, and then carry on the knowledgediscovery has become a hot research topic. The research of prescriptions can be roughly divided into two aspects, the research ofcompatibility regulation of Chinese medicine and the research of the dose-effectrelationship. In this paper, the study used a new approach to analyze the main prescriptionof Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases from both compatibility regulation anddose-effect relationship. The new method is based on the theory of formal conceptanalysis (FCA) and by the assist of partial-order attribute diagram. The results of theknowledge discovery include: the plus or reduce of medicine, the basic formula and thederivative formula, medicine suits, high frequency medical, the principle of theprescription should fit the pathogenesis, the principle of the prescription should fit thedisease changes, the principle of the dose should fit the disease changes, the relationshipbetween the dosage and efficacy and the relationship between the dosage, efficacy, and disease. According to the interpretation of the findings results, further demonstrated thefeasibility and the scientificalness of this research method, and proved its applicability forthe modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.
