PURPOSE:To evaluate the value of nonmydriatic fundus photography in diffrent severity scale diabetic retinopathy screening.METHODS:180patients (357eyes) with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus were collected from2012.7to2013.1. All patients were examed by nonmydriatic digital fundus photography, fundus fluorescein angiography, and direct funduscopy with pupils dilation. Then the data of three examination methods was compared by statistical analysis to find the evaluate of nonmydriatic digital fundus photography. RESULTS:In comparison with fundus fluoreseein angiography, fundus photography gave a sensitivity of78.6%?a specificity of96.8%and a kappa statistic of0.857using mild nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy as a threshold, showed a sensitivity of85%or higher、a specificity of95%or higher and a kappa statistic of0.8or higher in moderate or more severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy. Direct funduscopy with pupils dilation gave a sensitivity of81.4%、a specificity of98.0%and a kappa statistic of0.821using proliferative diabetic retinopathy as a threshold, showed lower the data in other referable diabetic retinopathy.CONCLUSION:Nonmydriatic fundus photography is feasible in screening early DR especially using moderate or more severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy as a threshold.
