Objective: To study the variation characteristic and the related factors of the brain natriureticpeptide (BNP) in patients with chronic heart failure in different TCM syndromes.Method:123cases that sufferred chronic heart failure were selected from Hospital of GansuCollege of Traditional Chinese Medicine. After collecting etiology, course of disease, clinicalsymptoms, signs and related biochemical index, all the cases went into four groups:deficiency of qi in the heart and the lungs, deficiency of both qi and yin, insufficiency of yang-qi, kidney-essence deficiency. BNP and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of each eachgroup were measured (cardiac function class II, III, IV, according to NYHA classification).Results:1. The research showed that infection, the original heart disease aggravation, excitedness and tiredness were the main factors for the patients to be admitted to hospital.2.Among these types of TCM syndromes, deficiency of both qi and yin, and insufficiency ofyang-qi accounted for larger proportion.3. Along with the prolongation of the course, theBNP level of patients showed a rising trend gradually.4. The BNP level increase significantlyaccording to the TCM syndrome order: deficiency of qi in the heart and the lungs, deficiencyof both qi and yin, insufficiency of yang-qi, kidney-essence deficiency.5. There was relationbetween NYHA heart function classification and TCM syndrome type.6. Inducing factors(such as infection and arhythmia)could affect the variation of BNP in patients with chronicheart failure in different TCM syndromes.7. Basic diseases (such as anemia and chronicobstructive pulmonary disease) can influence the BNP in patients with chronic heart failure indifferent TCM syndromes. Conclusion: Through the analysis of the different BNP level in patients with Chronic HeartFailure in Different TCM Syndromes, different inducing factors and basic diseases caninfluence the level of BNP in patients with different syndromes.
