Background and Objective High intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU)noninvasive ablation is developping in recent years as as a tumor treatmenttechnology, which focuses the ultrasound on the target tissue with theimaging guiding and positioning, the temperature increases rapidly and thecavitation effect arises on the focal region, causing the denaturing of proteinand the coagulative necrosis of tissue, then achieving its aim of ablation ofthe tumor. In clinical, adrenal tumor often causes secondary hypertension,Cardiomyopathy and other cardiovascular complications. The aim of thisclinical study is to discuss the effectiveness and the safety of HIFUnoninvasive ablation of adrenal tumors and the treatment of cardiovascularcomplications. Methods Five patients with adrenal tumors(five lesions)who werestay in HIFU ablation of tumors department were collected during January2010to march2013. They were accompanied with cardiomyopathy or highblood pressure. All the cases undergoed High intensity focused ultrasound ablation after the lesions were confirmed as the adrenal mass with enhancedMRI/CT, laboratory testing and biopsy preoperative. We evaluate theeffective with change of enhanced MRI imaging postoperative andavailability of treating cardiovascular complications with clinical symptomof these patient. Results Five patients received high intensity focused ultrasoundablation successfully, there was not serious complication during operationand postoperative. Two lesions were complete necrosis, most of lesion wasnecrosis in two cases, the giant mass was partial necrosis after ablation twotimes. The heart of the patient with phaochromocytoma andcatecholamine-induced cardiomyopathy deflated obviously, whose functionwas improved. The blood pressure was back to normal or controlled betterwith one hypotensor in four patients with adrenal adenoma and resistancehypertension. Conclusions High intensity focused ultrasound noninvasive ablation isa effective and safe noninvasive operation for ablation of adrenal tumors andtreatment of cardiovascular complications.
