Background:The statins are the most widely used lipid-lowering drugs, which can effectively reduce the levels of TC and LDL-C in serum, upregulate the content of HDL-C, and delay or reverse the occurrence anddevelopment of atherosclerosis, thereby reducing the recurrence of stroke. Objective:To compare the effect of atorvastatin and simvastatin onserum lipid and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with cerebral infarction.Methods:35cases were collected which have been clinically diagosedwith cerebral infarction and carotid atherosclerotic plaques by the carotidartery color doppler flow imaging from January to June in2012in theFirst Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. At the sametime, the level of LDL-C from their fasting blood serum were more than2.1mmol/L (80mg/dl) at dawn. These patients were randomlydivided into two groups---A group(n=19, atorvastatin20mg/d qn), Bgroup (n=16, simvastatin20mg/d qn). During the treatment, all patientshad low salt and fat diet.6months follow-up. Before and after the treatment, the level of fasting lipids were tested by Blood BiochemicalDetection. The carotid artery-media thickness (IMT) and the maximumdiameter and thickness of the atherosclerotic plaque were deceted byCarotid Color Doppler Ultrasound also detected.Result:(1)After6months treatment, the level of triglyceride (TG),total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) inboth two groups were significantly lowerer than before (P<0.01).Compared to B group, the decrease of TC and LDL-C in A group wassignificantly larger(P<0.05).(2)After treatment, the carotid IMT andplaque thickness were significantly thinner, the maximum diameter of theplaques were significantly lowerer in both two groups(P <0.05). In Agroup,The decrease of above-mentioned factors were more ovbious thanthat of B group, which had no statistical significance. Conclusion: Both Atorvastatin and Simvastatin show good effect inlowering lipid and stabilizing carotid atherosclerosis plaques, both of whichcan obviously reduce the level of TG, TCand LDL-C in serum in patientswith cerebral infarction. However, the effects of atorvastatin on serum TG,TC and LDL-C were superior to that of simvastatin at the same dose. BothAtorvastatin and Simvastatin can reduce the thickness of the carotid IMT,the maximum diameter and thickness of plaque, which play theanti-atherosclerotic role and there is no significant difference between thetwo drugs on the anti-atherosclerotic effcet.
