The Clinical Applications And Effects Of Bandage Lenses In Ocular Surface Disease

Objective: To observe the indications and effects in the ocular surfacedisease of bandage lens. Through the use of PureVision pure as bandagelenses to evaluate therapeutic value and significance in ocular surfacediseases.Methods: From March2012to March2013,83patients(93eyes) wereselected from the Department of Ophthalmology of First Affiliated Hospitalof Chongqing Medical University in a prospective open-endednon-randomized trial. The average age of patients (44.3±14.7years),including44male and39females, age range from8to70years old.Thediseases which were dovetailed into the investigation are Cornealepithelium abnormalities, eyelid entropion and trichiasis, viral keratitis,Corneal ulcer, chemical burns,dry eye, etc.All the patients were fitted withPureVision continuous wear contact lenses,meanwhile they were treatedwith eye drops According to different diseases needs. A new lens wasreplaced after1-14dayes if still needed.,and the continued use time rangingfrom1day to11months.Results:83patients(93eyes), in the point of pain relief, completeremission in47eyes (48.0%), partial remission in38(39.0%), the efficient is 86.7%.in the point of wound healing, Complete healing in29(30.0%),partial healing in54(55.0%), the efficient is85.0%. In the disease requiredcorneal supporting in11cases(11eyes),9cases achieved completeremission,2case became more series. Complications include lenses lost (3eyes), slid off (2eyes) instability, foreign body sensation (11eyes),2eyes in2patients infection aggravated.Conclusion:Wearing a bandage contact lens is safely and effectively inthe treatment of noninfectious ocular surface disease.Significance ofoxygen,cornea edema and infectionwere not be found in the treatment. Weara bandage lens in bullous keratopathy, corneal laceration suturepostoperative keratoplasty, corneal epithelial defects can significantlyimprove patient’s symptoms and promote wound healing. bandages lenscan help Patients with dry eye,repair the corneal epithelial defec,.here isforeign body sensation after longtime use of lens in dry eyes.so the lensshould be changed more frequently. However, patients had a cornealinfection may be more series after the use of lens. As a bandage lens,PureVision contact lens is meaningful in the ocular surface disease.Infectious corneal disease and dry eye is the most common cause of failureof bandages treatment.
