Summary: To study the clinical effect of autologous bone marrow stem celltransplantation in treatment of severe ulcerative colitis. Methods: Choose37patients with ulcerative colitis Among them,17patients werefemale,20patients were male, they aged20to79years old, mean age was41±15yearsold, A total of180~200ml bone marrow was aspirated from poster superior spine inaseptic conditions. After isolation and purification, the stem cells were transplanted intothe superior mesenteric artery through the femoral artery. Observe the patients, symptoms indicators, biochemical markers and the mucosal performance in thecolonoscopy before and after transplantation in4weeks,8weeks and12weeks.Observe intraoperative and postoperative adverse reactions. Results: After transplantation in4weeks the patient’s number of diarrhea score began tosignificantly reduce (P <0.05), from preoperative5.79±1.689reduced to4.03±1.291, The degree of the patient’s blood in the stool was significantly reducedafter transplantation in12weeks (P <0.05), from preoperative average2.21±0.409points reduced to1.44±0.788points. The performance in the colonoscopy has improvedsignificantly in12weeks(P<0.05), from preoperative average2.27±0.508increased to1.71±0.572, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and Hemoglobin preoperative andpostoperative comparison the difference was not statistically significant. the numberof patients abdominal pain were reduced from preoperative31to24, transplantation in12weeks, the number of patients with fever from20reduced to14. In37cases oftransplant patients, serious side effects were not found. Conclusion: Studies have shown that autologous bone marrow stem cell transplantationcan improve some symptoms of patients with UC, and colonoscopy performance hasbeen significantly improved. Hemoglobin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, abdominalpain, fever has not improved significantly.Autologous bone marrow stem celltransplantation have easily obtained, without rejection, painless minimally invasive, safe and relatively inexpensive characteristics. This can provide a new treatment for theSevere patients with UC. However, due to the small sample size, short follow-up time, pending further study of a large number of clinical trials to prove efficacy.
