Objective:To investigate the expression of PIGF with its receptor Fit-1in rectal cancer and its relation with microvessel density(MVD),and investigate their relationships with tumor infiltration, metastasis, prognosis and clinicopathological character of rectal cancer.Methods:50patients of rectal cancer between2007and2009in The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University were included.Clinicopathologic data were obtained from Patients records. Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of PIGF, Fit-1protein and MVD in the rectal cancer tissues and normaltissues. The correlations among PIGF,Fit-1protein and MVD,cIinicopathologic factors, and survival were then statistically analyzed, using SPSS17.0.Results:High expression rates of PIGF,Fit-1and MVD in rectal cancer tissues were78.0%(39/50),72%(36/50) and62%(31/50).but the adjacent normal tissues were not expressed. P1GF mainly localizes in the cytoplasm of the rectal cancer cells and (or) cell membrane. The expression of PIGF in rectal cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in adjacent tissues (P<0.05). The high expression of PIGF was closely associated with differentiation, invasion depth, lymph node metastasis(P<0.05) while it had no significant correlation with sex, age.(P>0.05). The high expression of Fit-1was associated with invasion depth (P<0.05),and it had no significant correlation with sex, age, differentiation and lymph node metastasis (P>0.05). MVD was associated with invasion depth, lymph node metastasis (P<0.05),and it had no significant correlation with sex, age, and differentiation (P>0.05) A statistically significant association between the expression of PIGF and MVD was noted(P<005), Multivariate analysis showed that PIGF and MVD were independent prognostic markers.Conelusion:PIGF was over expressed in rectal cancer tissues, and related positively with MVD. PIGF, Fit-1and MVD were important prognostic indicators for rectal cancer.
