Objective: In order to make clear what and how play a part in antipyretic effects ofBupleuri Radix, some pharmacological experiments were done. This job can promoteclinical application and development of Bupleuri Radix. Methods:(1) The rats werecaused fever by dry yeast. The rats’ body temperature to the drug were observed (2) ThecAMP of hypothalamus and plasma were detected. The AVP of ventral septal area werealso detected. The mechanism of antipyretic effects was analyzed.(3) The IL-1β ofhypothalamus and serum were detected. The mechanism of antipyretic effects wasanalyzed. Results:(1) Bupleuri Radix has good antipyretic effects. The oil was mostsignificant, the saponin was more significant, the decoction was not extremelysignificant.(2) The oil can decrease IL-1β and cAMP of hypothalamus significantly. It canalso decrease AVP of ventral septal area. The saponin was not significant as oil. Thedecoction was worse.(3) The oil can raise AVP of plasma significantly. The cAMP ofplasma and AVP of serum were not significant. The Saponin was not significant as oil. Thedecoction was worse.(4) There were positive correlativity between maximum height oftemperature and IL-1β, cAMP content of hypothalamus, and AVP content of ventral septalarea. Conclusion: Bupleuri Radix has good antipyretic effects. The oil and saponin ofBupleuri Radix played an important role in antipyretic effects. It can decrease IL-1β andcAMP. Meanwhile it can promote the release of AVP. This was the mechanism ofantipyretic effects.
