Background:The functional sugars includ functional oligosaccharides and xylitols et al. Xylitol, xylooligosaccharide and maltitol are the mostly widely used three types of functional sugars. Since the resource superiorities, the functional sugar industry achieved rapid developments in Yucheng, Shandong. Today, the largest functional sugar industry cluster has been established here. Although this industry is still on the upswing, the occupational hazards exist in production of the functional sugar are lack of research. Objective:This study mainly focus on the elements, processes and levels of hazards exist in the production of xylitol, xylooligosaccharide and maltitol. Then protection methods have been demonstrated to offer solid basis for the occupational hazards prevension in enterprises. The conclussions of this study can also provide technical suggestions for formulating of the occupational hazards prevension rules.Method:The selected three representative functional sugar production lines include xylitol, xylooligosaccharide and maltitol,in Shandong Province. Through on-site investigation, literature review and relevant technical information, whole process of the production has been clearly known. The key points include:the materials and quantities of major and auxiliary materials; equipments and its internal medium; operation mode; production arts and so on. Then, occupational hazards reasons will be determined based on the information above.Occupational health investigation will be performed to find out the opration of the various positions, including positions, responsibilities, work area, job contact, potential occupational hazards factors and hazards preventions. On the basis of occupational health investigation and production conditions, according to the relevant national standards, testing and evaluation of hazards concentration (strength) will be carried out, and the data will be statistically analyzed.Results:1.Xylitol production lines to the finished product as raw material, through of sugar, hydrogen, hydrogenation process to produce xylitol, in the process generating the main occupational hazards including dust, toxic chemicals (methanol, carbon monoxide, hydrogen chloride, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, etc.) and physical factors (noise, temperature);2.Xylooligosaccharides production lines to corn cob powder as raw material, through mixing, cooking and other craft production xylooligosaccharides, in the process generating the main occupational hazards including dust, toxic chemicals (hydrogen chloride, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, etc.) as well as physical factors (noise, temperature);3.Maltitol production lines to starch as raw material, through mixing, saccharification of starch liquefaction, hydrogen, hydrogenation process to produce maltitol, in this process the main occupational hazards resulting xylitol production line with the same;4.These lines have taken the necessary dustproof, anti-virus, anti-noise and summer cooling measures.5.Dust and chemical toxicant concentration breaks are combined occupational exposure limit requirements, and part of the job noise, high above the occupational exposure limits. Dust between production lines, methanol, carbon monoxide, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia concentration, there was no significant difference in noise level, but the hydrogen concentration of xylitol production than other two lines; xylitol and maltitol lines WBGT index is high in oligosaccharide production line.Conclussion:Conclussions of this study are as follows:(1) Occupational hazards in the function of sugar production process mainly noise and high temperature;(2) Occupational hazards in xylitol and maltitol production lines is stronger than xylooligosaccharides production lines;(3) To pay attention to maintenance, accidents and other special circumstances the dust protective measures, with particular attention to the the acute asphyxia poisoning confined spaces that may occur when.
