Purpose: This essay aims at further construct the medical content of the OviductusRanae, through the textual research of using Oviductus Ranae as food and a TCMsource, the identification of different form of Oviductus Ranae, the relevance ofbiological morphological characteristics of Rana temporaria chensinensis David andits Oviductus Ranae yielding rate. The second purpose is to classify the safety andquantity standard for the Oviductus Ranae industry through the heavy-metaland-pesticide-detecting and pesticide-residues-detecting experiment. Methods: To consult textual research documents on Rana temporaria chensinensisDavid and Oviductus Ranae, especially focus on the history of using them as food or aTCM source; to investigate several major TCM medicine market and collect morethan40samples of Oviductus Ranae, them put them into comparison procedureincluding the description, pictures and identification of morphology and using theink-drawing map. To systematically analyse the shape, length of body parts andOviductus Ranae yielding rate of Rana temporaria chensinensis David from fiveproducing areas. To do the heavy-metal and-pesticide-detecting andpesticide-residues-detecting experiment about Oviductus Ranae, livers, eggs andbones of Rana temporaria chensinensis David, and the living environment includingwater, soil.Results:①The word Rana temporaria chensinensis David is first recorded in a Bookof "Ning Guta Jilue", Kangxi60thof Qing Dynasty (1721AD.). Some of the relevantbooks contains errors.②Two major domestic medicine market show poor sales datain Oviductus Ranae saling.③Counterfeit of Oviductus Ranae is quite common, andpresents a variety of morphological changes, this phenomenon should be called intoattention.④In5different producing areas, Jiaohe county is the best in quantity andthe yielding rate is highest, for Heilongjiang province and North Korea the yieldingrate is low though the appearance is bigger.⑤The majority samples of OviductusRanae, bones, eggs, livers contain some level of cadmium and lead, especially in the livers. The soil samples from the survival environment contain cadmium, mercury, copper, cadmium.⑥We found no pesticide residues in the all samples from sixdifferent producing areas. Conclusion: The counterfeit of Oviductus Ranae has varies kinds of form, shouldbe called into attention. The appearance of Rana temporaria chensinensis David inChina and the Oviductus Ranae yielding ratel is not directly related. The heavy metalresidues in Oviductus Ranae and its surviving environment has certain correlation, butnot the pesticide residues.
