Epidemiological Investigation Of Knee Osteoarthritis In The Middle-aged And Elderly Residents In District Of Xiangxi, Hunan

Abstract/Summary:
Objective To investigate the prevalence of the knee OA (osteoarthritis, OA),associated risk factors and epidemiological characteristics in the middle-aged and elderly residents over40years in district of Xiangxi in Hunan,so as to provide the evidences for prevention and treatment. Methods2village committees and two residential committees were drawn by the stratified cluster sampling survey. All the residents over40years were required to finish the questionnaire about the knee OA.The diagnoses of knee OA is based on the Guidelines of Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoarthritis issued by Chinese Orthopaedic Association in2007.The subjects who have the symptoms of knee OA were undergone the keen X-rays.The statistics and analysis of the date was finished with SPSS18.0and Excel2007, the P<0.05means a significant difference.Results The prevalence of knee OA of middle-aged and elderly residents was21.0%in the district of xiangxi,the difference of the prevalence of knee OA between urban areas(21.6%) and rural areas(20.5%)was not significant(P>0.05),the prevalence of male and female were14.1%and26.9%respectively, with a significant difference(P<0.01).The severity degree of knee OA is higher in rural areas than the urban’s with the significant difference (P<0.05).The old age,women,labour intensityⅣ、Ⅴ grade,climbing activity and BMI>28maybe the risk factors for knee OA by logistic regress analyzing. Conclusion1.The prevalence of the knee OA of the middle-aged and elderly residents is21.0%in the district of Xiangxi in Hunan;2.The severity degree of knee OA is higher in rural areas than the urban;3.The risk factors for knee OA include old age,women, labour intensity Ⅳ、Ⅴ grade,climbing activity and BMI>28.
