Objective:To explore the clinical effect and safety of metronidazole amino acidum natrium (CMNa) combined with radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods:Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were searched from specialized trials registered in the Cochrane library, Pubmed, EMbase, CBM, CNKI, VIP and Wan Fang Databases by computer. We also searched the published and unpublished dates by other way, and made quality assessment of qualified RCTs assessed by the exclusion and inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis was conducted by RevMan5.1software.Results:A total of16RCTs were included. The total effective rate of received CMNa combined with radiotherapy was higher than the received radiotherapy alone for local carcinoma, neck metastatic site and local recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (OR=3.14,95%CI:2.15~4.61, P<0.00001),(OR=2.48,95%CI:1.60~3.83, P<0.0001) and (OR=3.44,95%CI:1.72~6.84, P=0.0004); The significant difference were found in the1,3,5-year survival rates (OR=4.94,95%CI:2.41~10.15, P<0.0001),(OR=2.42,95%CI:1.31-4.50, P=0.005) and (OR=2.04,95%CI:1.17~3.55, P=0.01); There was no statistical difference between these two groups of the main toxicities (P>0.05).Conclusion:The CMNa combined with radiotherapy has beneficial effects in treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and less toxicity, so it is worth referring and applying in clinic.
