| [BACKGROUND]Burnout is a status that someone feel fatigue and sleepy when working. Most of the studies of burnout were focus on general hospitals and only few study were based on medical staffs in psychiatric hospitals. With the rapid developing of mental health, the working environment of medical workers has changed a lot. To investigate the status, influence factors and improvement measures of job burnout among psychiatric doctors and nurses from both macro and micro perspectives is necessary.[OBJECTIVE]To investigate the status and influence factors of job burnout and to explore the effective way of improving burnout among medical staffs in a provincial psychiatric hospital.[SUBJECTS AND METHODS]A total of352doctors and nurses were studied using the general investigation. Maslach burnout inventory (MBI), Social support rating scale (SSRS), Simplified coping style questionnaire, Life satisfaction index B (LSIB) and Basic personal information questionnaire were self-rated by all the respondents. Data were entered into computer after weeding out unqualified questionnaires and were disposed with statistical software of Epidata3.1and Sas8.2.[RESULTS]1. For the emotional exhaustion (EE) dimension of job burnout, respondents who were above50-year old, with heavy financial burden and out of interest in the job scored significantly higher than those who were below30-year old, with light financial burden and strong interest in the job, respectively (P<0.05). Medical staffs with better health condition and higher job security got lower scores (P<0.05).2. For the depersonalization (DP) dimension of job burnout, respondents who worked more than30years, had administrative function and were enrolled staffs scored lower than those who worked less than10years, had no administrative function and were contract employers, respectively (P<0.05). Medical staffs with better health and living condition and higher job security got significantly lower scores (P<0.05).3. For the personal accomplishment (PA) dimension of job burnout, respondents who were female, had senior technical post, had administrative function and were strongly interested in the job scored significantly higher than those who were male, had primary technical post, had no administrative function and were not interested in the job, respectively (P<0.05).4. Using the correlation analysis, we found that EE dimension of job burnout was negatively correlated with life satisfaction and social support, while was positively correlated with sleep quality (P<0.01). DP dimension was negatively correlated with life satisfaction and social support, while was positively correlated with sleep quality and negative coping (P<0.01). PA dimension was positively correlated with social support and life satisfaction (P<0.01) while was negatively correlated with negative coping (P<0.01).5. Results from multiple linear regressions showed that technical post, job interest, health condition, job security, sleep quality, social support, coping style and life satisfaction were the influence factors of job burnout among psychiatric doctors and nurses.[CONCLUSIONS]1. Male medical staffs had higher level of job burnout than female ones.2. Medical staffs that had administrative function had lower level of job burnout than those who did not have.3. Medical staffs that had senior technical post had lower level of job burnout than those who had primary technical post.4. Medical staffs with light financial burden and better living condition had lower level of job burnout than those with heavy financial burden.5. Medical staffs that had better health condition, stronger interest in job and higher job security had lower job burnout.6. Better sleep quality, more social support, higher life satisfaction and positive coping style are the effective factors which could relieve the job burnout.[SUGGESTIONS]1. Strengthen efforts to the support of mental health and increase the social position of the mental health workers.2. Increase the management level of psychiatric hospitals and create a favorable working condition for the medical staffs.3. Provide favorable social support and build a powerful backing for the psychiatric doctors and nurses.4. Increase medical staffs’coping ability and effectively release their work and life pressure.5. Increase psychological intervention and counseling and promote mental health of the psychiatric doctors and nurses. |
