Object: To find the present status including knowledge of HIVoccupational exposure and attitude to occupational protection on HIVoccupational exposure of healthcare workers in10hospitals of city ofLIUZHOU, an on-site survey with questionnaire is conducted. To discoverthe current lack of the knowledge and attitude and provide the solutions andsuggestions, provide background information and theoretical for future HIVoccupational exposure education in hospitals.Method: A cross-sectional study is used to survey the270healthcareworkers in a stratified random sample of10hospitals, including tertiary,secondary and primary grade hospitals. The object departments arephysician, surgery, pediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics, ENT, dentalclinic, infectious diseases, operating theatre, clinical laboratory, andadministration office, medical technical. The departments are divided intofour categories according to the similar of way to treatment. A self-designquestionnaire of HIV occupational exposure is used to survey the healthcareworkers. The data is input into Excel, and analyzed by Excel and SPSS19.0. Alogistic regression analysis is used to analyze the impact of knowledge ofHIV occupational exposure by the factors of healthcare workers.Result: There are10hospitals and270healthcare workers in the study.264(97.78%) healthcare workers was interviewed, and effectivequestionnaires are260(98.48%).84.62%healthcare workers had received the training of HIVoccupational exposure,85.77%are aware of the rules of occupationalexposure prevention and the operation procedures. Most of the workerswithout the awareness come from the hospitals of secondary and primarygrade.98.46%healthcare workers consider that the training of HIVoccupational exposure is necessary.40.77%healthcare workers were exposure to blood or body fluid ofpatients.59.23%were injured by the sharp instrument, the needle stick injuryis common by63.64%.The well awareness of knowledge of HIV occupational exposure is68.08%, and29.23%healthcare workers are at a middle level. Somehealthcare workers have a poor knowledge in the cmmon sense ofAIDS/HIV and HIV occupational exposure, awareness of occupationalprotection, disposal measures after occupational exposure. For example, theHIV inactivated, the source of HIV occupational exposure, cover the needleset on a used one, wound treatment after HIV occupational exposure, and awareness of report to the management department after HIV occupationalexposure.Healthcare workers are grouping by gender, age, working years,hospital level, occupation, departments, education background, professionaltitle. Single factor analysis is used to analyze the effect on the factors to theawareness. By2test, the correlation of occupation, professional title andawareness are considered statistical significance(P<0.05).A logistic regression analysis is carried out on the factors of occupationand professional title to awareness. The logistic model is consideredstatistical significance(P<0.05).The model fitting is good(P>0.05).Thedoctors, nurses and laboratory technicians have better awareness comparingwith the others.(P<0.05, OR=3.8,3.04,9.51).The healthcare workers with alower professional title have poor awareness comparing with the seniorones(P<0.05, OR=0.47).Conclusion: The healthcare workers have good awareness of HIVoccupational exposure. And they need more comprehensive and in-depthtraining of occupational exposure. Especially for basic-level hospitalhealthcare workers, as well as junior, and workers who are not in the clinicaldepartments, it should strengthen the management and training, and urgedthe workers work in strictly abide by the universal principle of prevention.To improve the awareness of active report after occupational exposure, and improve the ability of occupational protection ability.
