Structure, Psychological And Social Attributes Of Graphic Symbol

With the raise of non-information art history research in20th century, methods of other disciplines including semiotics are applied in the field of Visual Art. However, it does not mean one uses a semiotic method with the using of such terms. In addition, the concept of "graphic symbol" itself has to be clarified. What kind of symbol image is? How it is structured? The view of linguistics, philosopher such as F.D.Saussure and C.Peirce may answer these questions. Visual perception, Schema theory, Iconography and N.Bryson’s studies of image are also analysised so as to show how an image can represent an object and the possiblity of construct a semantic history of image.
