American poet Sylvia Plath is the famous representation of Confessional Poetry, her life which is filled with legendary color arosed many controversy. Sylvia Plath belongs to Germany race, born in America, and went to England to study, she has three identities. In her whole live she had be abandoned by two men, one is her father, and the other is her husband. There are strong resentment and attack to this two men in her poeties, so she was put up to be a pioneer of feminism by feminist, but herself hadn’t admit to this identity. Sylvia Plath had three times suicides, there are many "die" appear to her poeties, did she want to die or hope another birth? Her life and poetries are full of contradiction, but the poetries of Plath must be affirmed, we should not increase her influence of poetry by her legendary life. Her poetries are not totally portraiture of her life. This thesis trys to discuss kinds of poetries of Plath, and advance some new opinion about feminism and thanatopsis in her poetries by feminism theory. This thesis will divide into three chapter to argument kinds of contradictions and infections in Sylvis Plath’s production. The first chapter is about the identity of Sylvia Plath, she can’t make certain her identity which made her dissociated, it not only due to she did not have adscription about her nationality, but also her style and the choose of vocation. People who has Germany race lived hard in American, it made Plath can’t find the feel of home, when Plath went to England for study and marriage, she was also hard to make sure the identity. Plath had accepted traditional literatural education when she was young, then she had acquaintance with Lowell the representation of confessional poetry and was influenced by him deeply, the two force affected each other in her poetries. The contradiction about the work is the result of the conflict of two consciousnesses, one is owing to men thinking govern and poison women’s, the other is a set of intellects awoke to know that if women want to independence, they must do it on economy first, that’s to say, women should attend social work, has their own career.Chapter two is based on fact material and feminism theory to discuss the Plath’poetry which entangled with love and hate, this sensation mostly reprensent on the complicated relation between her and her father, mother, husband. Plath’s father is Germany, he becomes cruel fascist. But he is also a scholar, Plath reapected him very much. Plath’mother hoped her daughter do what she had not do, it made the relation between Plath and her mother delicacy. Certainly, the most hurt to Plath was her husband’s betray. Because they loved each other intensely before, so Plath can’t tolerant it, hence resentment hold her heart.Chapter three will probe into the select of the living and death in Plath’s poetries. Although her poetries always intertwist with death and darkness, there are full of kindness and commiseration. It’s easy to find a humanitarian who attaches importance to flowers and grasses, a very exquisite, sensitive and virtuous women, a mother who devote her all to her child.T hus it can be seen that Plath did not really want to die, she just wanderded between living and death. In her life, death is an experience, another subsistence. At last, we can get the conclusion. We can’t put Plath to some genus. She is a poet who grew up in a special environment, the suffering of her life and thinking form the contradiction of her poety. In the end, she can’t relieve the contradiction in her life and poetry, so she killed herself.
