An Investigation On Roland Barthes’s Text Theory

Text is a very significant theoretical term of Roland Barthes’s literature theory in the phase of post structuralism. Barthes began with the linguistics theory, to explore the internal rules of language symbols, as well as the ideology how to form and play a role in this process. This is an aspect that Barthes paid attention all the time. He finally found a language structure in the text. Bart thought, the bourgeois ideology could be found everywhere, the meaning of language has been centralized and fixed. Only through the text, in which the plurality of meaning through language game, can resist the single sense of violence, confront and overthrow the existing bourgeois culture.Due to Barthes’s text view is based on the post structural linguistics theory, I prepare to analyze it from the linguistic perspective. The theory of text was bom in the twentieth Century, the time when linguistic turn is popular, this theoretical climate provides the text theory deep soil,. Bakhtin, Derrida and other thinkers’criticism or inheritance relations with the Saussure linguistics directly contributed to the forming of the text from the theoretical point of view. The text theory is opposed to linguistic structure, and the internal hidden ideology and power, its strategy is the revolution inside language itself, sabotage and subversion of the language structure. Finally, the text becomes a kind of carnival in the linguistic sense. The strategy constitutes a paradox:the language is a kind of oppression, and the language is inescapable, nothing exists outside of language, to against this repression, we can only use the language itself. Although the S/Z, The Pleasure of the Text, A Lover s Discourse etc is a series of writing practice seems to set an example of text, but we can clearly see that, they ended up being solidified. In his late years, Barthes also realized text increasingly became common, he used a body philosophy to keep text away from the ideology and power, but this time the text is hardly to be described as a kind of theory, I would say it is only a tactic of literati.In summary, the theory of text was a radical term when it come into birth, and finally it was solidified as a common term of literature criticism. We can say, all of this is a linguistic question ultimately. I try to investigate this process.
