Translation is a kind of cross-cultural communication which involves the originalauthor, the translator and the target readers. The essence of the cultural differences liesin their respective and inherent ideological modes, which are embodied in differentlanguages. Therefore, in the process of translation, the translator should applyappropriate translation strategies by transforming the ideological modes so as to makethe version faithful to the original as much as possible.Translation is not only a language transfer but also the cultural transfer, especiallythe ideological modes transformation. The author attempts to probe into Chinese andwestern ideological modes from the perspective of Chinese and western thinkingspringhead—The Book of Changes and The Bible, and then to seek the relevanttranslation strategies. This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is thebrief introduction to the research objective, motivation, significance and purpose. Thesecond chapter is the literature review, mainly dealing with the relationship betweenlanguage and thought, thought and translation and also the relations among language,thought and translation. Chapter three is the essence of this paper, and it focuses onthe distinctions between Chinese and western ideological modes fundamentally bymeans of The Book of Changes and The Bible. Besides, the chapter elaborates theideological modes of The Book of Changes embodied in Chinese language and The Bible embodied in English language. On the basis of comparative analysis of differentideological modes, chapter four tends to work out some feasible translation strategiesby analyzing a large quantity of examples with the purpose of bettering translationquality. Chapter five is the concluding part.The comparative study of differences between Chinese and western ideologicalmodes by means of The Book of Changes and The Bible will assist us to further theresearch on translation theory, on this account to achieve more efficient translationpractice.
