China has a long history, and the extensive and profound traditional culture as well. While as the root of Chinese traditional ideology and ethical practice, the Book of Change has a huge impact on Chinese culture which known as "the leader of Chinese Classics, the source of Tao". Therefore, translation of the Book of Change has a vital role in spreading classical culture of the China. The study of translation versions of Book of Change has been done from the traditional perspectives of linguistics and culture studies. Most of them just introduce the background and important influence of translation version of Book of Change, or just study its characteristics or defects. In view of this, the thesis attempts to analyze the translation strategy of Book of Change from a comparatively new perspective--communication science.Communication Science was established in the 1940s in America. The General Communication Mode proposed by Bittner are applied to the translation process of Book of Change, that is, after understanding the original text, translator passes the message through channels to target readers and gets feedbacks from them, and the whole process will be certainly disturbed by various obstacles such as the vague language of Book of Change, low reading and comprehension ability of classics and poor bilingual cultural knowledge. This paper combines the elements of communication mode and translation process mode and analyzes the influential elements, such as translator, message, target audience, common experience. The results prove that this mode can help translator to recognize each stage of classic translation process, the source of translation obstacles and the common experience with target readers. The translation strategies and techniques of addition of long prolegomena, addition of annotation, domestication in cultural-loaded word and foreignization in translation style can reduce interference and share more common experience and then develop the quality of translation. It is hoped that this research can provide some suggestions to translation of Chinese classics and improve the quality, readability and acceptability of their translation versions to reach the good effect of spreading Chinese culture.
