Large archaeological sites contain unique historical and cultural value. They arethe cultural roots of Chinese civilization and carrier of ancestors’ activities, and thusspiritually link the Chinese nation together. Therfore we need to overcome the weakpoint of our work, the value assessment of large archeological tomb sites. Because onlywith a correct understanding we will be able to conduct the right management andprotection of this irreplacable resource.The value assessment among the important archeological sites of China isespeccially difficult when it comes to large archeological tomb site areas. Consistingof massive relics and natural as well as artifical evironments, containing complexsocietal, cultural, economic components and being intertwhined with the sourroundingareas’ society, its complexity leads to a varying value identification of stakeholders. It isnecessary to systematically structure the different value systems in order to find theoptimal balance between protection and utilization of the sites. This way a pursue of asustainable development will be achieved. Therefore, a current value assessment studycarried out from a systemic point of view is particularly important.By analyzing both the domestic and international culture heritage value research,considering our current characteristics of large sites protection, this article analyzes thevalue system of large archeological tombs site by simultaneous consideration ofcombined protection and management value assessment factors. Thus an initialframework for a value system for large archeological tomb sites is established. And anresearch of the relations between all category of value have be made.Based on the large archeological tomb sites’ value system, this article takes theJingjiang mausoleum as a typical example, by analyzing the current situation of itsstructure and enviroment protection, we design its value assessment system. Applyingthe analytic hierarchy process and expert consultation we determine the evaluationindex significance. We then estimate the Jingjiang site’s value by this system. Basedon the result of the assessment we provide a suggestion for its future protection,management, environmental remediation and presentation.
