A Metaphoric Study On Chou(Sorrow) In Song Lyrics

Emotional metaphor has been vastly explored in English linguistics.Influenced by western culture, the emotions of love, joy and anger were paidmuch more attention to in comparison with worry, sorrow and sadness byforeign linguists.Chou（sorrow）is one of the most pervasive emotional expressions inChinese classical poetry, which has an extensive connotation andmanifestation. People often use matephors to convey complicatedemotions.Especially in the Song Lyrics, Chou and Chou Metaphors can beseen everywhere. Based on the cognitive metaphor theory and the closedlinguistic corpus from Song lyrics, this dissertation wanted to explore theconcept of Chou and national characteristics of metaphorical thinking.According to whether tenor，vehicle，ground appear or not we summarizedthree kinds of semantic structures of Chou Metaphors.And we generalized five kinds of semantic features. We tried to study the mechanism of ChouMetaphors in four aspects which are semantic conflict, mapping, similarity,the double image.And we analysed Metonymy, Body Metaphor, six kinds ofConventional Metaphor, eight kinds of Image Metaphor, PersonificationMetaphor and Synaesthesia Metaphor.
