Mr. Wang Jianzhong is a piano composer who has outstanding contributions to the development of the piano in China. The piano works he created especially the rearranged tunes, take an important role in modern piano documents. He produced a great many not only high quality but also different style works with rich subject matter and distinct individual character. His works not only provide a wide variety of technical subjects in the playing techniques, but entrust more Chinese aesthetic taste in music connotation as well. He ingeniously used the experience of likeness in the western composition for reference to merge the spirit of Chinese national music and his own unique understanding about music and art culture. As familiarity with the piano playing techniques and proficient in musical composing techniques, he has created23piano works, an art song, a violin concerto,2string quartets.The special period from1957to1966in China, such as the "anti-rightist" campaign in1957and the "Cultural Revolution" in1966, the intensification of class struggle and political movement held a dominate position. Trends of thought in music stepped up to the left process and various kind of critical discussions came one after another, especially the two instructions issued by Chairman Mao. Such tense critical words about class struggle and ideology has occupied the main stream in the musical circles and hurt a large number of musicians and musical works. In such a hostile environment, the creation of Wang jianzhong has reached maturity and opened up a new world for the piano adaptations in his own unique feelings and understanding about Chinese piano.In this paper, the text regarding the piano transcriptions,"Four Folk Songs", adapted by Wang Jianzhong as the research object is composed of three parts:The first part will introduce the art career and his works, mainly introduce his experience about music trends from1957to1976. The second part will interpret individually every song, and analyze detailed from created background and methods and playing techniques based on the four folk songs.The third part will summarize during the special time, his piano transcription was breakthrough the leftist and contribution to the world music.The main methods for studying:the analytical and synthetically method, the comparative method and collecting data method.
