As a precious cultural heritage left by Mongolian ancestors, Mongolia traditional culture is an important part of Chinese traditional culture. Mongolia traditional culture, with its unique aesthetic characteristics, folk features and ideologies, is reflected in the folk art, folk customs, political system, and every walks of Mongolian people’s lives. Integrating such Mongolian traditional cultural manifestations as folk color culture and decorative pattern culture into the design of prairie souvenir franchised stores, is not only an exploration of the traditional ethnic culture, but also an innovation for the fusion of traditions and modernness. Such probe could help to promote the inheritance of ethnic traditional culture. More importantly, it has great economic, cultural and historical significance.This paper elaborates on the design of prairie souvenir franchised stores based on the exploration of Mongolian traditional culture. The paper claims that as a special type of franchised store which is formed by adapting to the needs and development of Inner Mongolian tourism industry, the interior design of present such stores in Inner Mongolia are not only low-leveled, but also could not meet the demands of tourism market, and exert negative influence to the overall image of Inner Mongolian tourism industry. This present research on the integration of Mongolia traditional culture into the design of prairie souvenir franchised stores meets the needs of the development of Inner Mongolia tourism industry. It is also consistent with the regional characteristics of Inner Mongolia and is in line with the unique aesthetic tastes of Mongolians. However, not all the content of traditional culture could be utilized into the specific actual design. Different from the design of big shopping malls, the design of such franchised stores could not contain all manifestations of the traditional culture. Therefore, designers should be rational in making the design meet the basic functional demands of such stores and tally with the modern design concepts. Moreover, designers should probe into the Mongolian traditional culture for contents which are helpful to improve the interior environment by attaching equal importance to modernness and traditions. Only in this way, could such franchised stores could be designed as interior spaces with modern sense, sense of nationalism, without losing the commercial taste.Describing the background information, significance and purpose of this paper, the first chapter mainly introduces the development of Inner Mongolia tourism industry and prairie souvenir franchised stores, by emphasizing the historical, cultural and economic significance of improving the design of such stores. The second chapter elaborates on the theoretical bases which include the basic concept of prairie souvenir franchised stores and specific types of souvenir stores in Inner Mongolia and other regions of China. The third chapter studies on the factual bases of applying traditional cultural to the design of prairie souvenir franchised stores, which includes the cultural connotations, openness and inclusiveness of the tourism souvenirs, customers’cultural psychology, economic and cultural value of tourism souvenirs. The fourth and fifth chapter illustrates major problems existed in the interior design of prairie souvenir franchised stores in Hohhot. By analyzing such aspects as space structure, space form,ethnical color, ethnical pattern, use of light, space atmosphere, and display of artifacts in detail, these two chapters further proposed specific solutions to improve the interior design. The sixth chapter is the conclusion, summed up the traditional Mongolian culture a grassland tourist souvenir store design, a lot of precious design material, not only enrich the atmosphere of the space to improve the cultural tastes of the space, but also for contemporary commercial spacedesigned to provide fresh blood. Same time, with the platform of grassland tourist souvenir shops, the traditional Mongolian culture spread, known to the world. Mongolian traditional culture applied to grassland tourist souvenir store design has the double meaning of the cultures and eras.
