Action films as increasingly mature film type, are becoming more and more popular, and widely spread in the world. In the many of movies, John’s action films with its unique cultural intension and cinematic talent show itself. John put his heroic complex into the action movie with unique camera language, created a hero in the world, left the enduring screen image to the audience.John’s action films have divided into the Hongkong times and Hollywood period, but his actions are inseparable from the hero worship, and contain the complex of males, from which we can see the director’s inner world, social culture and the modern people’s emotional tendency. In each of his films, we can see the same heroic complex. The director used a variety of film technique to show the male characters in his own mind, so he created many heroic characteristics and make leaving the audience is not only the expression and express his inner feelings, more action as a type of film contains social culture and morality.John’s action films are based on fictitious and imaginary, but the hero worship, the idealized male friendship and the social culture, through John Woo’s superb movie art means make John’s action films to be the type of film in the history of film which cannot be ignored. In the modern audience’s experience, John’s action films with different image which are telling a common theme appear on the screen. Not just John’s psychological emotional changes projected by John’s movies, but making up for the shortcomings by imagination of the real world of human, which eventually become a modern screen myth in Hollywood commercial movies.The preface introduces the research significance and research situation of John’s action films. The first chapter mainly summarizes the types of movies and action movies, and introduces the two periods of John’s creation. The second chapter combines with the specific film to explain the male heroic complex in John’s action films from the prototype theory, psychoanalysis, feminist perspective and the perspective of social culture in John’s action films. The third chapter mainly studies the image expression, and how he uses movie language to shape the heroic feelings to make the audience’s emotional response. Having had the research on the heroic and males complex in John’s creation,we try to have a in-depth digging about cultural and social significance behind the film and explore its unique artistic charm of the film.
