| Lee Chang-dong is an unique director in South Korea and also has a considerable influence in the world.This paper attempts to make use of auteurism to consider all Lee Chang-dong’s films.Firstly, presenting the basic concepts and development of "auteur theory",laying a theoretical foundation for follow-up study. Then, from the director’s growth and creation experiences, gives a brief account of his life and creation,and analyzes the work from writer, screenwriter and director those triple identity dimensions.The third part of the paper,combined with the analysis of specific examples,try to interpret these repeated themes of Lee Chang-dong’s films.After ensuring that consistency of theme, respectively from two aspects of his narrative strategy and audio-visual language, this paper attempts to distinguish his individual imprint and personal style. Thus entitling Lee Chang-dong the coronet of the author film theoretically. Combining with his personal life and knowledge background and the experience engaged in writing, the text tries to analyze the profound literature basis and ideological implication of his works. Also try to remark each film in his film sequence, taking intertextual relationship of all works into consideration. Finally, affirming him the status of realism director who gives attention to the social reality with human care.According to his most honorable Chinese writer Lu Xun’s tragedy theory "To show people the destruction of valuable things of the life", trying to grasp accurately the director’s tragic aesthetic view. By the combination of his humanistic appeal and realism theory, approving Lee Chang-dong’s artistic value and charm.
