Students’protest is a wave by students in pursuit of freedom, equality, justice and political democracy caused by the conflict with teachers, schools and administrative authorities during the transitional period in Chinese history. Academic study has achieved some results from case study or general perspective. Nevertheless, the study between the minister of education and students’protest still has some deficiencies. Based on this, this thesis applies the theories and methods of history, sociology, journalism, psychology and other disciplines to the case study of students’protest in1923, during which Eight National Schools in Beijing were against Peng Yunyi as minister of education. The article is divided into four parts. Firstly, it discusses the reasons of the protest The social background of insufficient investment in education is explained through the financial situation of the government during the early years of the Republic of China; the conflict between Peng and the teachers and students in Peking University is illustrated by the resignation of the university president Cai Yuanpei; the contradiction between Peng and law college students is presented by the contrast of attitudes. Secondly, it studies the struggle between school students and Peng Yunyi and Congress. By revealing the petition parade on the day of the election of the House of Representative, the scene of students beaten by police and the reaction after the protest, this part shows that students use a variety of means to make their own voice of keeping Cai by expelling Peng or even warning Congress heard by the most effective way and the fastest speed to the most extensive range to win the support and sympathy of the society. Finally, it presents the trend of students’protest. By the exposition of students’support and sympathy for the workers’ movement, the revelation of the telegrams after the bloody clash during the Lantern Festival, demanding the Northern Government to cut the soldiers and clarify the politics and inviting Sun Yat-sen for the Northern Expedition, it shows students’ disappointment for the North and hope for the South.Through the investigation and study of Peng Yunyi’s event, it is obvious that students are developed into an organized, purposeful, prepared group, and have different struggle goals in different stages, from keeping Cai by expelling Peng in the beginning to warning Congress, to denying Congress, then to overthrowing the warlords and clarifying the politics by contacting the Southern Government initiatively. However, every change of the goal is based on the further understanding of the nature of the Northern government; every change of the goal can demonstrate the frustration and disappointment of the students to the Northern Government; every change of the goal also shows that the students are closer to the progressive forces. This article is not for the sake of students’ protest, but gives an objective, fair and complete view of it.
