The world has faced the serious environmental crisis today, the worsening ecological environment has threatened the survival and development of human being. Faced with this, many writers have directed their attention to the relationship between nature and human being, and called for protecting nature and the vulnerable group likes women, so as to live in perfect harmony with nature. Rache Carson’s Silent Spring and Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein are such two works. The former exposes the ecological crisis brought by DDT abusing and other chemicals through a large amount of scientific facts. Carson criticizes the attitude of human being attempt to control the nature. The latter describes the tragedy of the protagonist Victor who uses the science to create human being but finally is destroyed by the monster of his own creation. Mary presents the readers a scene of disaster caused by human being against the order of nature. This thesis attempts to study Silent Spring and Frankenstein from the perspective of eco-criticism. The paper combines the ecological ethics with the eco-feminism and analyzes the different reflection of human society’s real harmony in two works. By the comparative analysis, this thesis compares and analyzes the genres, themes and techniques of expression of the two works. Taking the different reflections of harmonious relationship between human being and nature in two works as the key points, this thesis compares and analyzes the common view-non-anthropocentrism. Silent Spring advocates the ecological holism while Frankenstein criticizes the scientific and technological supremacy, thus revealing that anthropocentrism inevitably results in the total destruction of both man and nature. Meanwhile two women writers show their common eco-feminist consciousness by portraying the double oppressions of nature and women from men. Both works reveal the double dilemmas nature and women faced, praising the rebellion of nature and women while criticizing the patriarchal oppression. The two women authors both appeal to human being to establish a harmonious society where people can live in real harmony with nature and with each other.
