Since the new period, a large number of outstanding prose about local customs andpractices of the western region have emerged. Through unique spiritual and artisticfeatures, the prose produced a great influence in the field of literature. This kind of prosehas risen rapidly and played an important role in the development of contemporary prosein the new period, and pushed the prose to a new stage.The representative writers who play an important role in the development ofChinese contemporary prose are Li Ruobing, Jia Pingwa, Zhou Tao, Ma Lihua, LiuLiangcheng, Shi Xiaoxi, Guo Wenbin, Feng Qiuzi and so on. The birth and developmentof the western prose in the new period can not be divided from the unique natural andcultural background, and it shows an imprint of western spirit from the date of birth.With their unique creative idea, the western writers take the writing as a kind ofemotional and spiritual sustenance. They show a strong sense of life, and have brightartistic characteristics full of human appreciation for the ground. This paper grasps thecreation of western prose starting from the macroscopic. Firstly, it analyzes the westernprose’s cultural context of its birth and the writer’s idea, and then discusses the wholespirit and artistic representation of western prose, with Jia Pingwa, Zhou Tao, LiuLiangcheng, Ma Lihua, Qiu Shanshan and other representative writers and works provideas examples to discuss in order to show the overall style of Western prose.This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter mainly delves into thecultural context of western prose’s development. The birth and development of thewestern prose in the new period, how it is influenced by the unique natural environmentand regional culture, and how it inherited the good tradition of literature. The naturallandscape, deeply influenced by religion multi-ethnic culture atmosphere, provide a lot ofmaterial and inspiration for the Western essayist. The prosperous development of ancientprose, poetry and prose has laid a solid foundation for the development of western prosein the new period giving a higher starting point for the ideological content and artisticpractices for the western prose.The second chapter discusses the creation concept of western writers in the newperiod. Full of humanitarian thought, the western essayist of the new period observed Western life, looking at the bottom of life, and paying attention to the lowest living state,carrying forward the western edge of culture. They write about life from their own lifeexperiences. They see writing as a kind of spiritual sustenance. Thy write about theirhomeland to miss their hometown. Facing the present situation of modern literature, theyalways stick to their own spiritual heights and uphold their own creativity rules, bringinga breath of fresh air to the literary world.The third chapter mainly discusses the spirit of western prose in the new period.Western essayists put the life consciousness into the creation of western prose in the newperiod, showing a strong sense of life and advocating the natural and powerful humanlife spirit. Life is equal and noble in the vast western land. Western prose shows theoriginal natural power of life. This power is the source of the firm, indomitable andradical spiritual tradition of western people which develops in difficult survival situations.The firm, indomitable and radical spirit of the west impacts the ancient western people,becoming the inner spiritual strength which encouraged the western people’s productionand life, and thus gradually affecting people in eastern region.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the art of western prose in the new period. Thewestern prose in new period poetically exemplifies the western spirits. The prose hasbright artistic characteristics. The expression, language features and aesthetic style aregiven to find everything fresh and new, injecting fresh blood into the silence of the newperiod prose. In the expression, western prose uses the bell of rhetoric, increasing thelegibility of the article. At the same time, giving full play to the role of fiction, thecontent becomes rich and colorful. It turns the traditional single lyric modemultidimensional giving the reader a profound experience. In literary structure, itpresents the characteristics of the combination of multiple styles and the characteristicsof cross style. The western prose shows a bold style, with Zhou Tao, Shi Xiaoxi, MaLihua’s works and so on as representatives reflecting the sublime style of western prosein new period.At the end of the twentieth Century, the creation of western prose from silence anddepression to prosperity. The emergence of a large number of outstanding writers andwork forms, unique spiritual and artistic style, showing a flexible, free and infectiouspoetic charm. It caused a profound echo in the literary world, and became a bright scenery line in the prose history in new period, making a great contribution to thetwenty-first Century prose development.
