Translation, as a cultural communicative role, plays a crucial role in human society and civilization. So is the importance of translators. The May4th Movement, a cultural enlightenment, exercises a great influence on all aspects of our society. It marks the rebirth of China and the start of Chinese democracy. The translated literature in that period was of great significance which was called as the third climax in the history of Chinese translation. In the process, we can’t ignore the importance of translators such as Lu Xun, the author of New Youth. As a great translator he left nearly4million words of versions and many useful translation thoughts to us. Up to now, there have been many articles and books about Lu Xun, but only a few of them research Lu Xun as a translator during the May4th Movement. So the purpose of this paper is to research Lu Xun as a translator during the period systematically, ranging from his life, his translation activities, his translation thoughts, etc. And we hope this paper will add some useful insights into the translation history and practice of China.This paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is an introduction which includes a literature review of studies on Lu Xun as a translator during the May4th Movement abroad and at home and a brief introduction of social background of the Movement, and the current state of studied on that aspect is also included. Chapter Two is the brief introduction of the features of translating activities during the May4th Movement period through analyzing social background of that time. Chapter Three is the research of Lu Xun’s translation thoughts during the time. And we summarized the features of Lu Xun’s translation thoughts into five main parts and among which we can find many valuable suggestions on translation issues in China. Chapter Four is the revelations of Lu Xun’s versions according to his translation thoughts, and we will explicate them from five aspects. This chapter is the core of the whole paper. Chapter Five is the conclusion of the whole paper which combines the evaluation of Lu Xun as a translator with the summary of the present research.
