The Modeling Feature Of Image Oil Painting

Image oil painting is one of emerging art forms in our country in recent years, which arises under the background of Chinese unique culture. So it has aesthetic value of Chinese culture and shows the different art forms that is distinguished from Western oil paintings. Traditional Western realistic oil painting focuses on reproduction of images by means of modeling of chroma, volume, space and perspective to achieve the reality of images. While image oil painting presents the features of blending Chinese imagery and Western oil painting and expresses a distinct personility in the creative process---it prefers to catch the spirit of traditional Chinese painting. It does not intend to pursue the structure of three-dimensional space but to grasp the macro feeling. It does not seek for the similarity in appearance but try to seize the spirit of the painting. In this way, it has the characters of unifying and changing relating to general oil painting. In the creative process, it tries to attain the harmony of man and nature,"using imagery to create situation, to make modeling, to produce colours and to express views", with the purpose of refining the intuitive perception of aesthetic object. Special emphasis are put on the blending of feeling, meaning, idea, interest and taste between the subject and the object. And in this process, the creator’s idea and feeling are axpressed incisively and vividly.In this paper, the writer focuses on the modeling features of image oil painting. After knowing the essence and the creative methods of image oil painting, we will have guidance on the modeling feature of it. The essence of it is to express artistic conception and charm. With this guidance, we will create vivid artistic works when we have both image thinkings and abstract thinkings. The modeling features of image oil painting are studied mainly from three aspects:creating imagery to attain its charm; creating shape to attain its association; creating colours to achieve its effect. This paper makes a thorough analysis on several famous masterpieces and tries to explore the individual characteristics of modeling, which will paly an important role on the research.
