Mazurka dance is one of the Polish oldest folk dances. It consists of three kind of Polish countrysidedance: the Oberek, the Mazur, and the Kujawiak, which makes it have a distinctive nationality. Handeddown for generations, Mazurka Dance is a typical Polish-style dance music. Chopin’s Mazurka dance isadapted from a Polish folk dance. It not only has the characteristics of Polish folk music style, but also fullydemonstrates Chopin’s understanding and awareness to piano. Every Mazurka dance is one of Chopin’sdiaries which tell us his happiness, sadness, emotional changes, and the understanding of life and society.Chopin’s mazurka dance music is a psalm which expresses the most sincere love to the motherland.This paper is constituted by the introduction, the body and the epilogue. Among them, the body isconstituted by the four chapters.The introduction describes the background of the subject, the purpose and significance of the study,research status and research methods program.The first chapter mainly introduces the life of Chopin and Chopin’s Mazurka Dance’s historicalbackground, social causes. Then it generally discusses the writing style of Chopin and music features of theMazurka Dance.The second chapter is meant to analyze Chopin’s Mazurka dance music and compare with the Polishone.Chapter three mainly analyzes the use of ethnic elements in Chopin’s Mazurka Dance from fiveaspects: musical structure, tone tonality, harmony, texture, melody and rhythm.Chapter four reveals the inspiration from Chopin’s Mazurka Dance by three aspects: Chopin’s positionin the society and culture, feelings of patriotism in Mazurka Dance, and the meaning and value to our sociallife.Conclusion is to conclude the paper and to indicate the purpose of this essay.This paper describes Chopin’s Mazurka dance’s national character and firmly grasps the national style.Then it reveals Chopin’s creation characteristics, which is based on traditional music and traces toinvestigate the root cause of it. After that, this article explores that how can Chopin refined and used the national elements in Polish folk dance Mazurka, how can he adapted traditional music to excellent pianoworks with his own style without erasing the national character of the Polish folk music, and how heexpress his love for the motherland through folk music.We appreciate Chopin and commemorate him, not only for his music but also for his character. AndChopin’s Mazurka dance has a special practical significance for that era as well as modern life.
