Is it true that paintings and music have similarities or are they affecting oneother? From the scientific point of view, the answer would be ambiguous and nottestified. However, through the analysis of the history of music and paintings, therestill are some evidences showing that in some situations these two are definitelyinfluencing each other, each being an individual. They both bring people the samebeauty but via different passages, one is visual, the other is hearing.In this essay, the first two parts are going to analyze the background and theintensions of the painting <ping sha luo yan> and guqin piece <Ping sha luo yan>.Also in these two parts, the common characters of the two artistic creations will beindicated. The third part in this essay will develop the idea which is whether thesimilarity of paintings and music are only appearing in the author’s mind or not. Thefourth part is going to compare three different paintings and three different music tofind out the common factors from the structure, the technique and the manifestationaspects, and use the result to prove that painting and music do not have strictboundary between them. Painting has musicality; music has painting.
