The Western Symphony Orchestra has been developed after more than two hundred years of improvement.During such a long history, there’ve been outstanding composers, conductors, and performers who together have created a great many masterpieces. The Chinese Traditional Orchestra was established in the early twentieth century, and in a short time, has become a substantial influence in Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and many other countries. For more than fifty years, many Chinese composers and performers have been presenting a large number of excellent works. The development of the Chinese Traditional Orchestra has absorbed two cultural factors:1. The forms of Chinese traditional and folk music;2. The experiences of the Western Symphony Orchestra. These are very important factors in the establishment and development of many other traditional orchestras in the world.Vietnam is the neighbour of China and has many resemblances both in society and culture. The development of the Vietnam Traditional Orchestra so far is at the initial stage compared with Chinese Traditional Orchestras. In Vietnam, there are fifty-four ethnic groups whose rich culture includes traditional music and art. Despite this, the Vietnamese traditional orchestras have not yet achieved the standards necessary to gain enough attention due to many reasons-such as the lack of artist excellence, the orchestral instruments and the associated works. My objective is to bring the precious knowledge and experiences gained in years of overseas studying in China back to Vietnam and it put to use by making a contribution to the development the Vietnamese traditional orchestras. This dissertation is divided into three chapters:1.Introduction to the Vietnamese traditional orchestraThis chapter introduces the formation and the inherent musical instruments of the Vietnam traditional orchestra, and will make comparisons with the Vietnamese Traditional Orchestra and the Chinese Traditional Orchestra in musical instrument design and sound effects.2. Experiences of the Chinese Traditional Orchestra using as an example, the Western Symphony orchestras to express its own traditional characteristics.
