The History And Status Of The Shaanxi Philharmonic Orchestra

The paper takes the Shaanxi Philharmonic Orchestra,the first established professional philharmonic orchestra in the western area in China,as the research object,which is based on musicology,history and sociological methodology and materials from oral history and in the meantime combines other literature and pictures to do some further research,so as to sort out its development and modes in different stages and contexts;In addition,the paper through symphony observes the subtle connection between arts and economy politics,ideology and culture.The introduction of western music was the result of the new culture established in the late Qing dynasty by intellectuals and the development of symphony was especially the extension of it.As one of the four oldest orchestras since the PRC was founded,Shaanxi Philharmonic Orchestra was established in 1957 and was involved in the changes in domestic economy and politics in the past 60 years,from the fast growth during“All flowers bloom together”policy period to stages like the Anti-Rightists Movement,Movement of the“Four Clean-ups”,the Cultural Revolution,the reform and opening-up policy and the reform of personnel system in cultural institutions;The orchestra has went through stages like name changing,combination,reconstruction and reform.It is not only the history of an art group but also an authentic depiction of the social revolution in modern China.Shaanxi Philharmonic Orchestra has its ups and downs.Until today it becomes the delegate of Chinese western music,which is comprised of efforts and pains from several generations of musicians' pursuit for symphony.Here I recall the history and arrange the materials collected,trying to offer some experience and enlightenment for the development of Shaanxi Philharmonic Orchestra.
