Shanghai Animation Film Studio,the most important animation producing basisof China, was well known last century all over the world. Domestically,48productionof this studio won69awards, while internationally,45won73awards. We don’t talkabout technology and market factors, but attribute the success to the connection ofanimation and folk custom culture. This studio produced the first paper-cut animationPig King Eats Watermelon in1958, the first Chinese ink painting animation TheTadpoles Look for Their Mommy in1960, the first origami animation a clever duck inthe same year. We can find out from these”first” that, Shanghai Animation FilmStudio got the subjects from the most characteristic folk custom culture, such aspaper-cut, shadow play, Chinese ink painting and so on.This paper take the connection of animation and folk custom culture as subject,focus on the history, current situation, difficulties and solution of this connection. Thefirst chapter is introduction, which is analysis the background and basic facts of thissubject. The second capture discusses the characters of folk custom culture: mystery,legend, totem and tradition. The third capture is about the history, factor, and thereason of the connection of animation and folk custom culture. The forth capturestudies the difficulties and solution of this connection. The last capture is conclusion.
