As an important individual difference,cognitive style refers to the individual in the organization and characterization information showed habitual way of preference, in which cognitive style to present the information referred to as the representation style. From two-dimensional theory to three-dimensional theory, the corresponding research tools to enrich unceasingly, but the problem of reliability and validity of test tools has been controversial, and it is also a controversial issue that representation style as automated processing if has the corresponding structure with ability, which does represent that if the essence of the representation style is the reflection of the structure of the ability. The study created a new information processing test of cognitive style,which we called object imagery-spatial imagery-verbal cognitive style test (OSIV-CS), and with the aid of OSIV-CS explores the developmental trajectories of representation style of8-15years-old children and further explores the relation between the style and the development of structural features of the ability which contain the object imagery ability, spatial imagery ability,verbal ability.Content:The preparation of the OSIV-CS:213participants of8-15years-old children completed OSIV-CS separately to test the reliability and validity of OSIV-CS. Research on developmental trajectories of representation style:453participants of primary and middle school students completed OSIV-CS to explore developmental trajectories of representation style.Selected43participants whose have the apparent type of representation style to complete WISC-CR,research on the relation between the structure of the representation style and the structure of the ability.Results:The coefficient of internal-consistency is0.964. The split-half reliability is0.872, test-retest reliability are0.839to0.909(P<01), Face validity and content validity of the test were good; the difference of gender and age of dimension of representation style which OSIV-CS measured are not significant,the difference of grade of spatial dimension is significant;OSIV-CS measured individual representation style and corresponding ability of WISC-CR test measured each relation did not reach statistical significance level,developmental trajectories of representation style and the corresponding ability within the age are not consistentConclusion:The OSIV-CS has good reliability and validity,and can be the effective measurement of representation style. The developmental trajectories of each dimension of representation style of school-age children have a certain stability with the age’s development.The structure of the representation style and the structure of the ability of individual is different.Research provide the evidence for "decide representation style is automated processing characteristics rather than the structure of ability ".
