Because of an inexhaustible creativity, vanward attitude and the novels’ styleconstituted of unrestrained imagination, unrestrained language and flexible narrativetechniques, Mo Yan become a heterogeneous writer that can not be neglected in thehistory of Chinese Contemporary Literature. In the1980s’background of "rewritingliterary history"and restating history, Mo Yan activated the folk standpoint andpersonal experience in a state of a profound sleep with the vanward awareness ofWestern modernism and postmodernism. Moreover, he continues to learn traditionalnovel techniques. Because of the above factors, his novels forms an unofficialnarrative style to rethink、criticize and reconstruct history。Grew up in rural areas,Mo Yan is influenced a lot by the folk customs and culture, especially the folk witchcraft and mysterious culture of local Qi culture. Under theinfluence of the prevailing myths and unofficial legends, in enjoying the feast of the"ear", Mo Yan forms the view of "In a sense, history is the legendary". The theoryof "In a sense, history is the legendary" based on the folk standpoint and the westerntheory, especially the Magic Realism and New Historicism have had an impact on hisnovels, and constitute the sources of Mo Yan unofficial narrative.Relative to the ideologization and politicization of official history in the view ofhistory, unofficial history is nongovernmental and secularized. Compared with theseriousness and dullness of official history, it is more emotional and concrete.Unofficial history concerned more often than not the cause, the process and the resultsof historical events, but this historical people and stories. Unofficial world’s mostsignificant feature is the text of Legend in the framework of history. As the significantlevel, legends provide a greater space of imagination and sense for Mo Yan, additionto the reading interest to the reader. As the protagonists of the stories, eitheralternative heroes like bandits, or diligent tough romantic women, also or grotesque non—normal deformities, all of them are the people excluded from the official history. It is because of these characters that Mo Yan’ novels form the significance ofunofficial narrative.Multidimensional time, the recovery of the "storyteller" tradition and thetechniques of "Describing the Legend " constitute the three strategies of Mo Yanunofficial narrative. Different from the official historical time, the one-dimensionaltime makes a variety of historical discoursesystems apparent. The application of"storyteller" with the theory of polyphony, makes various voices remain independent. At the same time, these voices are also controled by storyteller, which not only createsan unofficial dramatic atmosphere, but also shows the recognition of civil spirit andvalue."Describing the Legend " under the influence of Pu Songling broadens the wayinto the history and makes the history strange, while as it makes Mysterious storesand suggests characters’ mental activity. The technique of "Describing the Legend "often acts as a protective film of Mo Yan, which not only makes him express his ownhistorical perspective, but also makes him quietly escape the sensitivities of theofficial history. To some extent, Mo Yan’s unofficial narrative style is fading. On one hand it isbecause of the intellectuals lack of the subjectivity, the so-called folk standpoint canonly achieves an aesthetic effect, but can not form antagonistic force, as well as theobject identity of "unofficial" is difficult to change; on the other hand, it is becauseMo Yan’s own historical accomplishment, vanward awareness and rural experienceneed to be updated.
